Caleb Amisi: I have been kicked out of the ODM National Executive Committee
Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi has revealed that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) removed him from the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) before any official meeting took place.
He made the claim during a radio interview on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, as tensions rise within ODM ahead of the 2027 elections. Amisi said he received a letter from the NEC informing him of his removal.
“What people are not aware of is that they have already kicked me out,” he stated.
He questioned the process, adding:
“For you to remove a NEC member, there are procedures. You don’t just write a letter from Bondo and send it on WhatsApp. The NEC must meet, and they must unanimously agree or vote that you’re supposed to leave. And you’re supposed to be given a right of reply. There must be a hearing.”
Amisi defends dual roles
The reason given for Amisi’s expulsion centred on his dual roles as county chairman and deputy organising secretary in the national party structure. He defended his position, noting that former party leader Raila Odinga personally appointed him to the deputy organising secretary role.
“Baba Raila Odinga felt it fit that Hon Caleb Amisi is the best person to replace,” Amisi recalled. “Baba called me. He asked whether I’d be willing to serve as deputy organising secretary. I said, anything for you Baba. And I became one. The central committee passed.”
Amisi noted that he already held the county chairman position when he received the national appointment.
“If they thought that being in two positions is illegal, then they are the ones who committed the illegality, not Caleb Amisi. Because they are the ones who gave me that position,” he said.

He added that party officials cleared him to stand and vote in last year’s county elections despite knowing about his dual roles.
“So it looks like illegality, but it is political,” he said. “Just come in at the time when you have two factions in ODM… I’ve been serving for the last two years in those two positions. You’ve just woken up and decided there’s an illegality here. So what the ODM is doing is destructive to itself.”
The removal forms part of broader changes in ODM. Reports indicate that the NEC meeting in Mombasa on Wednesday also dropped former councillor Kipkorir Menjo and Taita Taveta Senator Johnes Mwaruma from the committee. Insiders describe the moves as a purge targeting allies of Secretary General Edwin Sifuna.
Sifuna under attack
Sifuna faces his own challenges. National Treasury CS John Mbadi called for his expulsion days earlier, accusing him of conflicting loyalties and promoting a separate agenda.
“Someone like Sifuna will not remain in ODM because already he is conflicted. He is now selling the agenda of someone else… You cannot keep him in the party,” Mbadi said.

The party remains divided over cooperation with President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA). One faction, linked to Oburu, favours closer ties, while Sifuna, along with figures like Siaya Governor James Orengo and Deputy Party Leader Godfrey Osotsi, opposes any pre-election pact.
At a Linda Mwananchi rally in Busia on February 8, Osotsi vowed to protect ODM from what he called Ruto’s takeover attempts.
“Here in Busia, we have come out to protect the ODM party,” he declared. Orengo added: “Nobody will force us to enter into a government we do not agree with. ODM must form the next government and must have a presidential candidate.”
Meanwhile, ODM convened a NEC meeting in Mombasa on Wednesday February 11, 2026.
