ODM convenes crucial National Executive Council meeting amid party wrangles
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has announced a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting amid deepening internal divisions over the party’s political direction.
In an official statement by the party on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, ODM announced that the crucial meeting is scheduled to take place in Mombasa during the coastal region edition.
According to ODM, the National Executive Council meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2026.
The party further noted that after the meeting, the Coastal region edition tour will kick off in the afternoon with a session with the ODM delegates.
According to the statement, the ODM brigade will pitch camp in the coastal region in the next six days, where they will engage in a series of activities aimed at strengthening the party under the banner of Linda Ground.
ODM leader Oburu Odinga was warmly welcomed in Mombasa on Tuesday evening, February 10, 2026, ahead of the crucial meeting, bringing together top party officials.
Babu threatens separate NDC
Meanwhile, as the ODM party leadership wrangles take centre stage, the crucial meeting comes weeks after Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino threatened to organise a parallel National Delegates Conference (NDC) in ODM after raising concerns about the party’s upcoming elections, which are expected to be held soon.
Speaking during an interview at a local station on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, Babu accused some party officials of attempting to manipulate the delegate lists to block young leaders from ascending to the party leadership.

At the time, Babu Babu claimed that top party officials had planned to ferry people from areas like the Rift Valley and the northeastern region, as well as other areas that favoured them, in attempts to manipulate the decision at the conference.
He vowed to scrutinise the delegates’ list and ensure that only legitimate delegates attend the NDC. If his attempts fail, he said he will call for a different NDC that he says will elect him as the party leader.
“I have heard stories that when the NDC is called, there are plans to have delegates from the Rift Valley, North Eastern, and other favorable areas then. We will inspect the delegates’ list one by one to ensure that no one comes to the NDC who is not a delegate; otherwise, we will also call for a parallel NDC. If they call theirs, we will also call ours, which will elect us,” Babu stated.
Linda Mwananchi team movements
As the NEC plans loom, on the other hand, the Linda Mwananchi faction, led by embattled Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, witnessed a significantly huge crowd in Ugunja, Siaya County, while en route to Busia for a function on Sunday, February 8, 2026.

The crowd forced the Sifuna-led team to stop and acknowledge greetings from Ugunja locals as they headed to Busia for their separate party event
The Linda Mwananchi team was led by Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna, Siaya Governor James Orengo, Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.
The Linda Mwananchi group is made up of rebel leaders within ODM who oppose the party’s direction of entering into a pact with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), as proposed by the Orange Democratic Movement’s Central Management Committee (CMC).
Before the meeting, Oburu had cautioned Sifuna against issuing conflicting statements regarding the party.
