Arrest Kuria for ethnic profiling – Azimio team
Azimio La Umoja leaders have continued to castigate Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria’s utterances terming them ethnic profiling.
Led by former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth, the leaders said Kuria should be arrested and charged for ethnic contempt.
Kenneth said it was time that the country’s governance be placed under a worthy person the stature of ODM chief Raila Odinga.
“We should not gamble with our votes and lives. There is only one person who can steer this country forward after President Uhuru Kenyatta and that person is Raila,” said Kenneth.
Kenneth who has been away with Raila on official duty in the UK, returned on Saturday and joined the Nairobi brigade in drumming up support for Azimio.
While criss-crossing Mathare, Ruaraka and Embakasi North constituencies yesterday, the leaders exuded confidence that they have locked United Democratic Alliance out of Nairobi, which they termed as Raila’s bedroom.
Makadara lawmaker George Aladwa, the ODM Nairobi branch chairman, said Raila has the ability and capability to transform lives of the electorate.
“Our agenda is Azimio. This is the coalition that knows the sufferings of Kenyans and has solutions. We know that Raila will solve our issues,” said Aladwa.
One team
Nairobi governor aspirant Richard Ngatia said it was only through a Raila administration that devolution will succeed.
“Raila is the best presidential candidate we have. We in Azimio have confidence that his administration will support devolution especially here in Nairobi,” said Ngatia.
While snaking in through the populous areas of Mathare and Dandora, the brigade urged the electorate to embrace what they termed as ‘Baba’s’ presidency.
Former Dagoretti South MP Dennis Waweru while drumming up support for his parliamentary bid, said that although his votes were stolen in the last election, he called on the electorate to vote for candidates under Azimio. “We need to have numbers in Parliament to enable the President in his legislative agenda,” said Waweru.
ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna stated that their new found love with Jubilee is a clear sign that they will sweep all seats in Nairobi.
“We now have some of the leaders who we were in competition in 2017. We are now in one team. This is the team that will sweep Nairobi,” said Sifuna.
Leaders also held that it is only under Raila’s presidency that meaningful development will be realised.
Embakasi East Babu Owino told the electorate that ‘Baba’s presidency will ensure the poor are cushioned from the vagaries of hunger and unemployment.
“Under Raila’s presidency, the poor will be given Sh6,000 and lower the cost of living,” said Babu.
He told electorate that it is through Azimio administration that healthcare will be guaranteed as well as social welfare protection to cushion the poor from poverty.
According to Nominated MP Maina Kamanda, the Raila-led administration had laid elaborate plans to reduce poverty by providing an enabling environment for creation of jobs.
“We urge our supporters to vote for Raila because he is the only one who has a plan to lower the cost of living. Once he implements free education and Universal Health Care, that is 60 per cent of the burden off the shoulders of Nairobians,” said Kamanda.
Babu also said the social welfare programme being championed by Raila would help alleviate the suffering of Kenyans.
Babu, who is seeking to defend his seat, told residents of Mathare that under Raila’s administration, poverty will be eradicated.
“Under Raila’s government, poverty will be a thing of the past. Women will have quality medical care. The youths will have jobs and the life will be bearable,” said Babu.
Various aspirants
The caravan and entourage that also included various aspirants under Azimio, exuded confidence that Raila will form the next government.
“The mountain is no longer slippery. We are now at 40 per cent yet Raila was only looking for 10 per cent. We will work hard and ensure the people of Mount Kenya give Raila more than 60 per cent of the votes,” said Kamanda.
This was the fifth time the Azimio brigade was in a vote-hunting mission in the absence of Raila who has been away on official duty in the UK.
All aspirants under Azimio are campaigning and winners for respective seats will be known after the August election.
The decision was arrived at so that there is no fallout within the coalition and that all aspirants be given equal chances.
