Nandi County Senator Samson Cherargei has turned up the heat on Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, calling for his ouster from office.

In a statement on Monday, April 14, 2025, Cherargei boldly claimed that Natembeya deserves to be impeached, citing various reasons for his push. The vocal Kenya Kwanza lawmaker claimed that Governor Natembeya had violated various sections of the constitution through his various utterances.

Specifically, Cherargei labelled Natembeya as a divisive leader, noting that he was at the heart of stoking tribal animosity in the country.

Without providing evidence, Cherargei accused Natembeya of corruption and poor management of the county.

“Governor Natembeya should be impeached for stoking tribal animosity, division, poor development and corruption allegations. These offenses are impeachable under the constitution of kenya 2010 for violating Articles 10,27, 73, 74 , 75 and 174,” Cherargei wrote on X.

Natembeya defended

Cherargei’s comments after a section of leaders from Trans Nzoia raised alarm over what they termed as external interference with the county affairs.

They blasted Cherargei, insisting that he was neither a voter nor a resident of Trans Nzoia County and thus asked him to keep off.

“Leaders from outside should desist from dictating terms on Trans Nzoia County affairs. You are telling us that you are going to remove Natembeya, you are not a voter not a resident of Trans Nzoia County,” Eric Mwangale, one of the MCAs from the region, hit out at Cherargei.

“If you have plans in the senate to impeach Natembeya, forget about that,” he added.

Natembeya’s bold stance

Governor George Natembeya has held a strong stance in recent times. The first-time governor has not shied away from calling out the government on various issues and blasting leaders from the western region.

He has been vocal against abductions, opposed police deployment to Haiti and even criticised the Social Health Authority (SHA).

Natembeya recently said he will increase his dedication to the goal of liberating the community from the pit of poverty.

“No amount of threats will make me stop rallying for Luhya unity. I will make sure my community is free from the chains of leaders who use them for their selfish gains,” Natembeya stated.

He said that the cooperation of his opponents, who have been joining hands with the intention of removing him from power due to claims that he is causing divisions in the Luhya community, will not make him afraid to pursue positive changes.
