Details of Maraga’s meeting with Caleb Amisi

Former Chief Justice David Maraga has revealed details of a meeting with Saboti MP Caleb Amisi, as he continues to build momentum for his 2027 presidential bid.
In a statement shared on his X account on Monday, April 14, 2025, Maraga said their meeting focused on key national issues affecting Kenyans. He hinted that their discussion touched on ways to bring about much-needed change in the country.
“This morning, I met with Hon Caleb Amisi, MP Saboti Constituency, to discuss issues of common and National interest. He shared some interesting ideas on what we can do to RESET the country to a path of accountability, integrity and dignity for all Kenyans,” he wrote.

Their meeting comes shortly after Maraga made remarks about the country’s current state, pointing out that the economy, education, and healthcare systems are struggling and need urgent intervention.
In a post dated April 8, 2025, Maraga said Kenya is in need of a fresh start, emphasizing that ending corruption and impunity must be a priority. He expressed concern over the deteriorating quality of essential public services and called on leaders and citizens to stand up for what is right.
He said the country’s economy, education, and healthcare systems are on the verge of collapse unless immediate action is taken. Maraga also called for the strengthening of regional and continental relations and urged leaders to respect and implement the Constitution fully.
“Now more than ever, it is clear that Kenya needs a reset. We must end impunity and corruption. We must save our collapsing economy, education and healthcare. We must reset relations with our brothers and sisters in the region and Africa,” Maraga stated.
Adding;
“We must push for Fidelity to our Constitution and its full implementation. We must bring to book and hold accountable those who have flagrantly violated the Constitution. It is time for true change. For a reset.”
2027 preparation
The retired CJ officially declared his candidacy for Kenya’s 2027 presidential election in March, 2025.

Maraga says his decision was largely influenced by calls from Kenyan youth, particularly the Gen Z demographic, who view him as a symbol of integrity and reform. He has acknowledged their support and has been consulting with various stakeholders to solidify his campaign strategy.
Maraga initiated a series of nationwide town hall meetings, starting in his hometown of Kebirigo, Nyamira County. These consultations aimed to engage citizens directly and lay the groundwork for his political movement.
Maraga received the endorsement of his Bonyamatuta clan, with over 250 opinion leaders pledging their support. This backing is crucial for consolidating his base within the Gusii community .
However, his presidential bid faces competition from former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, another prominent figure from the Gusii region.
Maraga has in the recent past dismissed claims that he is a state-sponsored candidate intended to undermine Matiang’i’s prospects, emphasizing that his candidacy is driven by genuine public demand and a desire to address Kenya’s pressing challenges .
