Commuter services provider Super Metro Limited has announced plans to venture into Kenya’s taxi business amid its growing influence in the transport sector.

Taking to its social media pages, Super Metro teased its clients about the development on Monday, October 13, 2025. ”SuperGo Taxi Coming Soon!!! A fruitful week ahead of you all. Thank you,” the statement said in brief.

Super Metro’s announcement comes shortly after one of its buses was set ablaze after it was involved in a tragic accident on September 1, 2025, along Thika Road near Juja Town.

The incident resulted in the death of a motorbike rider, leaving the community in mourning and sparking calls for improved road safety measures.

According to the company statement issued just after the fatal accident, the bus was travelling downhill when a tuk-tuk ahead attempted to change lanes.

A motorbike rider, overtaking at high speed, swerved to avoid a collision, lost control, and struck the pavement.

“Super Metro Limited deeply regrets to confirm that on September 1, 2025, one of our buses, registration number KCZ358N, travelling downhill at Juja, a tuk-tuk ahead of the bus attempted to change lanes, prompting a motorbike rider, who was overtaking at high speed, to swerve in an effort to avoid a collision,” part of the statement dated September 2, 2025, reads.

Following the incident, the rider was fatally hit by the bus and died on the spot. Sharing grief with the family and close associates of the rider, Super Metro extended its heartfelt condolences and assured the public of its commitment to fully cooperate with authorities.

“Unfortunately, the rider struck the pavement, fell, and was fatally injured by the bus. The rider passed away at the scene,” the statement said.

Going forward, the company pledged to comply with authorities as the matter was under investigation.

“The matter is currently under investigation by Juja Police Station, and Super Metro is fully cooperating with the authorities to ensure a thorough and transparent inquiry,” it added.

Meanwhile, the taxi business in Kenya is largely dominated by digital ride-hailing apps, which offer convenience for customers and a way for drivers to access a large market. However, it is a competitive field with high operational costs.
