A postmortem report shared on Monday, June 8, 2026, revealed the cause of death of Eugene Mutuku, a student at Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) who was ejected from a moving matatu along Thika Road.

Addressing the press, family spokesperson Boniface Musyoka revealed that an autopsy report disclosed that the KMTC student died from severe multiple body injuries and internal bleeding caused by falling.

“The probable cause of death is severe bleeding due to force from a blunt object, and we suspect it was the tyre that ran over him,” Boniface Musyoka stated.

The post-mortem examination on the 19-year-old student was conducted at the Kenyatta National Hospital Mortuary.

Eugene is reported to have been ejected from a moving matatu where he sustained fatal injuries, following the incident involving the matatu which operates the Thika-Nairobi route.

Demands for justice

His grieving family continued to push for justice while crying foul over the delayed arrest of those behind the heinous act.

“As a family, we are still worried that those behind this act have not been arrested,” Musyoka claimed.

Mother’s plea

Similar sentiments were echoed by Jacinta Mutuku, Eugene Mutuku’s mother, but in an interesting turn of events, she declared that she had forgiven those behind the act.

“I loved him so much, he was my comforter and very close to me. But I have forgiven who did that to my son and I hope God will also forgive him. But I’m praying that justice will be served,” the deceased mother told a local TV station.

Fare angle dismissed

Earlier, the family of the KMTC student dismissed online reports suggesting that the student was ejected from a moving matatu for failing to raise the expected fare amount.

Speaking in an interview on Saturday, June 6, 2026, Emmanuel Mutuku, who is the elder brother of the late Eugene, confirmed that indeed the student had paid and was waiting for his balance.

According to Emmanuel, Eugene did not get back his balance, which led to a confrontation with the tout. A confrontation that led to the tragic incident after Eugene was ejected from the moving matatu on June 5, 2026, while en route to Kasarani.

Nimeona watu wakisema alikua amekosa fare na si fare alikua amekosa. Vile nilifika aliniambia makanga nidiye alinirusha na uyo makanga nikama walikua wanvutania change yake of which hakumpea,” Emmanuel explained.
