Super Metro explains cause of accident before bus was torched on Thika Road
Super Metro Limited has confirmed a tragic accident involving one of its buses on September 1, 2025, along Thika Road near Juja Town. The incident resulted in the death of a motorbike rider, leaving the community in mourning and sparking calls for improved road safety measures.
According to the company statement issued just after the fatal accident, the bus was travelling downhill when a tuk-tuk ahead attempted to change lanes. A motorbike rider, overtaking at high speed, swerved to avoid a collision, lost control, and struck the pavement.
“Super Metro Limited deeply regrets to confirm that on September 1, 2025, one of our buses, registration number KCZ358N, travelling downhill at Juja, a tuk-tuk ahead of the bus attempted to change lanes, prompting a motorbike rider, who was overtaking at high speed, to swerve in an effort to avoid a collision,” read the statement dated September 2, 2025.
The rider was fatally hit by the bus and died at the scene. Super Metro extended its heartfelt condolences to the family and assured the public of its commitment to fully cooperate with authorities. “Unfortunately, the rider struck the pavement, fell, and was fatally injured by the bus. The rider passed away at the scene.”

Investigation underway
Juja Police Station is leading the investigation into the incident. Super Metro has pledged full cooperation to ensure a thorough and transparent inquiry. “The matter is currently under investigation by Juja Police Station, and Super Metro is fully cooperating with the authorities to ensure a thorough and transparent inquiry.”
The Super Metro matatu was, however, set ablaze after the accident, creating panic among motorists and residents. Bystanders reported that the fire erupted after the bus allegedly struck a motorcyclist, triggering outrage among onlookers. Emergency services eventually arrived to contain the blaze and manage traffic.
Calls for improved safety measures
This latest fatality echoes an earlier incident on June 10, 2025, when a Super Metro bus collided with a lorry along Juja Road. That accident resulted in minor injuries but no fatalities. In the wake of the September 1 tragedy, safety advocates and members of the public are renewing calls for stricter road safety measures, including the installation of dash cams on public service vehicles.
