The Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) has issued a scam alert warning the public to avoid interacting with a fake Google Form link that is currently being circulated under the pretext of offering job and grant opportunities.

The fraudulent form, titled “KENYA NATIONAL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE & INDUSTRY GRANT APPLICATION”, falsely claims to be a development initiative launched by KNCCI in partnership with development partners such as the African Guarantee Fund and the African Development Fund. It outlines a seemingly legitimate application process that includes providing personal and business information to qualify for up to Ksh77 million in funding.

“This form is NOT from an official or verified source. It appears designed to harvest personal data under the pretense of job opportunities or financial support,” the Chamber said in a statement posted on their official X account (@kenya_chamber) on Monday, July 28, 2025.

The fake application promises financial assistance to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), claiming to support entrepreneurship and boost industrial growth. It includes details such as occupation, gender, residence, business type, number of employees, and even a section to explain how the global crisis has affected business operations.

Chamber distances itself from scam

KNCCI clarified that it has not launched any such grant programme or partnership and urged members of the public to stay alert and avoid submitting personal or financial details through suspicious online platforms.

“We would like to caution the public against engaging with the fraudulent Google Form link currently circulating. KNCCI only shares official opportunities through our verified platforms,” the statement added.

Cybercriminals often use well-written, professional-looking content to create trust among potential victims. This particular scam uses development-themed language, references to known institutions, and a structured application format to appear legitimate.

The Chamber has also asked individuals who may have already submitted their details to report the matter immediately and to take the necessary steps to protect their personal information.

“Let’s work together to stop the spread of misinformation and protect our business community from cyber fraud,” the Chamber urged.
