Security officer attached to Safaricom shoots dead colleague in pub brawl

A constable attached to the security detail of Safaricom PLC shot dead his colleague after a disagreement as they were leaving a bar yesterday morning in Ruaraka, Nairobi County.
The deceased officer, Constable Raphael Kimilu Wambua of the General Service Unit (GSU) attached to the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) was in the company of his brother when he picked a quarrel with Constable Ezekiel Tarus at around 1.30am near Naivas Ruaraka.
Constable Tarus drew his official firearm, a Jericho pistol and shot his colleague, killing him on the spot.
“The deceased, his brother and Constable Tarus were walking home from a club at around 1.30am when they quarrelled and it degenerated into a fist fight. Constable Tarus drew a gun and fatally shot the deceased,” a police citation read.
He was then cornered by members of the public who subjected him to mob justice before officers from Ruaraka police station who were on night patrol rescued him.
He was then rushed to Nairobi West Hospital as the body of Wambua was transferred to Kenyatta University mortuary.
Several officers have been charged with serious offences including murder and robberies in the last one year.
On Monday last week, two GSU off-duty officers and a member of public were arrested in a botched robbery in Githurai, Kasarani Sub-County.
Constables Frederick Githinji Waithera and Edward Chege Mwangi, both GSU officers attached to respectively and Kelvin Chomba were arrested by undercover officers from Githurai police post who were on night patrols.
They had pinned down the victim, Samuel Kimani, as they were robbing him when the officers arrived at the scene
“Upon interrogation, two of them identified themselves as GSU officers attached to Recce and operations, respectively,” police said.
Detectives from Kasarani Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have launched investigations and recorded the statement from the victim.
The arrest comes just hours after a detective from the DCI was arrested after a ballistic analysis linked his official firearm to a robbery incident where one of the victims was shot and seriously injured.
Constable Dennis Wafula Wanambisi attached to Kibwezi DCI and three other robbers, all dressed in jungle uniform, raided a bar at Yikisaya Trading Centre within Kibwezi Sub-County
