Transport paralysed in Limuru as PSV operators engage in violent clashes

Scores of people were injured and tens of public transport vehicles destroyed after two rival operators at the Limuru bus terminus clashed over parking rights on Friday, June 13, 2025.
The violent clashes, which paralysed transport for the second day running, pitted the Nakili Sacco matatu owners against tuk-tuk operators.
The clashes began after Nakili Sacco officials set up an office at the point where tuk-tuk drivers operate, sparking conflict over territory and operations.

Businesses within the bus part and its environs were brought to a standstill for the second day, with their owners counting big losses.
The confrontations turned chaotic and physical, with the sacco blocking the entry and exit points of the busy stage.
“The standoff has disrupted commuter flow, hurt local businesses, and raised safety concerns,” said James Kamau, a local humanitarian.

Tens of tuk-tuks were destroyed by goons who were said to have been hired.
Interestingly and unfortunately, the skirmishes took place without the intervention of police despite the Limuru police station being a stone’s throw away.
Residents are now calling on the county government to step in and resolve the dispute amicably.
