Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has called on Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to reconsider his position in the opposition and join the government, suggesting that he would be a more supportive ally than former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Speaking on Friday, June 13, 2025, in Machakos County, Kindiki emphasised that Kalonzo has the potential to be a “good friend” to the government, unlike Gachagua, whom he described as “hostile and selfish.”

Kindiki’s remarks come in the wake of comments by Labour Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection Alfred Mutua, who recently urged Kalonzo to join the government, stating that he was “playing small” in the opposition alliance.

“If you people allow me. I will go and look for my big brother Kalonzo. Between me and Gachagua, who has respect for Kalonzo? Kindiki posed.

“I will call him anytime because he is my big brother. We need people who mean well for Kenya,” he added.

Kindiki expressed the government’s desire to broaden its base and include leaders from various political backgrounds.

He reflected on his political journey and the importance of unity within the government. He noted that while Gachagua had been a divisive figure, Kalonzo’s experience and stature could contribute positively to the administration.

“Kalonzo has always been a leader who seeks the best for the country,” Kindiki remarked.

“His inclusion would strengthen our resolve to deliver our promises to the Kenyan people.”

The Deputy President also took the opportunity to criticise Gachagua’s tenure, suggesting that his leadership had been marked by division and a lack of collaboration.

“We need leaders who are committed to unity and progress, not those who sow discord,” Kindiki asserted.

The Wiper boss has previously rejected offers to join President William Ruto’s government, opting instead to lead the opposition.

In July 2024, he stated, “I want to clarify that I have no intentions of joining the Kenya Kwanza government. We can all see what is happening in this government. I cannot join that government.”

He said the decision was based on concerns over the government’s performance and a commitment to holding it accountable.

 The 2027 contest

Kindiki has been in the forefront telling off Gachagua for inciting Kenyans against President William Ruto’s administration.

According to him tribal politics and verbal sparrings will not address the challenges Kenyans are facing.

“We will build it with our sweat. This country we call Kenya is the only homeland we have and we must build it,” he said.

The Deputy President said Kenya Kwanza is on top of its game and will deliver.

“We will not let you down. This government will not fail Kenyans. We will make you proud. Let us go step by step because no government has resources for a one-day job,” he said.

“As we build, it is not by empty talk, bad politics, divisive words but by nurturing unity of all, so that everyone feels at home. It won’t be by politics of disunity and tribalism.”

He challenged leaders who have issues with the Ruto administration to address them without resorting to the extremities of politics.

“We must solve our problems as a country with love, diplomatically, quietly, and with understanding with one another.”
