Kisii Governor Simba Arati has appealed for the proper utilisation of the remaining time, calling for the prioritisation of meaningful work rather than engaging in politicking.

The governor made the remarks in his brief address to the 1st Murang’a Annual Conference on Friday, June 13, 2025, where he graced the occasion at the behest of the area governor, Irungu Kang’ata.

“I’m happy to join you here in this conference today, alongside my friend, Kang’ata, whom we served as MPs together and now as governors,” he stated.

” I want to urge the people of Murang’a to focus on the work and task ahead of us and leave politics for later,” he said.

“Elections are still way too far. Let’s utilise these two years at work, and we can have people square it out in politics in the remaining one year,” he pleaded

Arati’s comments come amid concern over the ever-rising political temperature in the country.

A scenario that has seemingly been exacerbated by the political back-and-forth between pro-government politicians and the opposition has seen the country’s political landscape get murkier with each passing day.

Central to the debate has been the opposition’s strong stance against the ongoing development projects undertaken by government-aligned politicians.

Speaking regarding the political situation of the country, Nyaribari Chache Member of Parliament Zaheer Jhander appealed for an end to early campaigns, terming them as premature and harmful.

The legislator voiced the need for a return to normalcy, urging the members from both sides of the political divide to tone down on political rhetoric and allow meaningful development to take place.

“From where I sit, it’s too early for campaigns. This is destructive and premature. The focus now is on governance and delivery to the people of Kenya and not politicking. This needs to stop: people should focus on the implementation of government policies and programs,” he said.

“I want to urge the opposition to criticise the government in a diplomatic and structured way to avoid creating anarchy and unnecessary political tension,” he opined.

The MP also waded into the ongoing debate of the government-sanctioned economic empowerment programmes, stressing no public money is being used to drive the initiatives.

The empowerment tours have been a major sticking issue in the back-and-forth politicking between the opposition and the government in the political debates.
