Nyaribari Chache Member of Parliament Zaheer Jhander has voiced concern over the country’s political climate, calling for an end to early campaigns.

The United Democratic Alliance-allied MP observed that the ongoing politicking is both premature and harmful.

Speaking during a live TV interview on Monday, June 9, 2025, the legislator voiced the need for a return to normalcy, urging the members from both sides of the political divide to tone down on political rhetoric and allow meaningful development to take place.

“From where I sit, it’s too early for campaigns. This is destructive and premature. The focus now is on governance and delivery to the people of Kenya and not politicking. This needs to stop: people should focus on the implementation of government policies and programs,” he said.

“I want to urge the opposition to criticise the government in a diplomatic and structured way to avoid creating anarchy and unnecessary political tension,” he opined.

The MP also waded into the ongoing debate of the government-sanctioned economic empowerment programmes, stressing no public money is being used to drive the initiatives.

The empowerment tours have been a major sticking issue in the back-and-forth politicking between the opposition and the government in the political debates.

Jhander sought to dismiss assertions from the opposition that the funds being used are public money.

“These are not handouts. They are structured empowerment policies in line with the BETA agenda we espoused when we came to office. It’s not government money. These are monies that leaders have raised through coming together as leaders and friends. I have had a similar campaign in my constituency, and we raised Ksh13 million. At the need of the day, we ensured it all remained with the people to better their lives,” he stated.

The MP also castigated former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, telling him off for his onslaught on his successor for undertaking the very role he used to do during his tenure as the country’s second deputy president.

“The former DP is actually forgetting that what Kindiki is doing is what he used to do in delivering food to the people,” he added.
