Police are investigating the mysterious murder of a 36-year-old man, who was trailed and shot dead outside his gate in Parklands, Nairobi.
Sagar Panara, an employee of MART Networks, was shot on Tuesday evening by unknown gunmen, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations said.
Panara was shot as he returned home from the Aga Khan Sports Club, raising the possibility that he was being trailed from there. He was driving a white Toyota Corolla when the attackers ambushed him at the entrance to his residential compound.
After a brief altercation, the assailants shot him in the neck, just below his right ear, and fled the scene. The victim was rushed to Aga Khan Hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival. His wife, Nejal Panara, confirmed that he arrived at his house.
Possible ties
The attackers, police said, left behind leaflets with the message “VACATE NAROK LAND, ONE PANARA DOWN, AND NAROK,” suggesting a possible link to a land dispute in the Narok region.
Detectives are also investigating whether the Panara family’s possible ties to a piece of land in Narok could have triggered the violent attack.
Meanwhile, a suspected gunman was shot and killed in a confrontation with police in Nairobi’s Mathare slums.
The shooting happened on Tuesday night at a residential house in Mathare North Area Three.
Police responded to a report of an armed man threatening locals with a pistol. He had also been mentioned in a case of robbery with violence.
When officers arrived, the gunman escaped into the first floor of a house, where he stayed put, prompting a dramatic siege. The man allegedly shot at the officers. Officers returned fire, fatally injuring him, locals said.
A Falcon pistol with one live bullet was taken from the suspect. An empty cartridge was found at the scene.
The suspect was identified as Kenneth Mwangi Njeri.
