Wetang’ula reveals details of his meeting with Joho

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has revealed the details of his meeting with Mining, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho.

In a statement issued via his official social media accounts on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, Wetang’ula noted that Joho had paid him a courtesy call in his office at Parliament Buildings.

The Ford Kenya party leader disclosed that CS Joho had outlined his priority agenda for the ministry, aimed at enhancing the mining sector with particular focus on applicable measures to boost revenue, address illegal mining and also exploitation of players in the sector.

“This morning, the Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs, Hon. @HassanAliJoho, paid me a courtesy call in my office at Parliament Buildings. In our engagement, CS Joho outlined his priority agenda for the ministry, aimed at enhancing the mining sector with particular focus on applicable measures to boost revenue, address illegal mining and also exploitation of players in the sector,” Wetang’ula wrote on X.

Uplifting seafaring industry

Moreover, CS Joho broke down plans aimed at uplifting the seafaring industry in what Wetang’ula termed as the former Mombasa governor’s quest to unlock untapped opportunities in the blue economy sector.

National Assembly Minority Leader and Suna East Member of Parliament (MP) Junet Mohamed joined the two in their meeting.

“In the quest to unlock untapped opportunities in the blue economy sector, the CS also broke down plans aimed at uplifting the seafaring industry. I wished him well in his new role. Present at the meeting was Minority Leader Hon. Junet Mohamed (Suna East),” Wetang’ula stated.

Joho meets Australian delegation

Prior to meeting Wetang’ula, Joho had hosted a delegation from the Australian private sector for a consultative meeting aimed at scaling up economic engagement between Kenya and Australia.

Joho, in a statement shared via his official X account, said that his discussion with the delegation led by Wilson Kogo, the Kenyan High Commissioner to Australia, focused on exploring ways to strengthen collaboration between our two nations.

“I had the pleasure of hosting a delegation from the Australian private sector for a consultative meeting aimed at scaling up economic engagement between Kenya and Australia. The discussion with the delegation led by H.E. Wilson Kogo, the Kenyan High Commissioner to Australia, focused on exploring ways to strengthen collaboration between our two nations,” Joho stated.

“We examined various avenues for investment with a particular emphasis on value addition in the mining sector. This meeting provided an invaluable opportunity to identify synergies and address challenges, ensuring that both Kenya and Australia can benefit from enhanced economic ties and mutual growth. We aim to forge strategic partnerships that will unlock the full potential of our resources.”
