Members of Gor Mahia’s technical bench and players on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 paid a courtesy call to Kennedy Onyango, who is hospitalized after suffering a horrific injury in a rescheduled league clash against KCB on Monday, April 7.

Croatian coach Sinisa Mihic and captain Philemon Otieno led the team out as they presented the defender with a bouquet and relayed their messages of goodwill and quick recovery.

Onyango sustained fractures to his tibia and fibula during the clash and was rushed to hospital.

Speedy Recovery

“Wishing Kenedy Onyango a speedy recovery! We’re all behind you, and we can’t wait to see you back on the pitch. We’re confident you’ll be back stronger than ever!” the club posted on its Instagram page on Wednesday, April 9, during the visit.

The defender’s setback comes as the reigning champions seek to mount a defence for their faltering bid to retain their league title with eight games left in the campaign.

The Kenyan giants are ranked third on the pile, lying three points behind leaders Police FC and two adrift second-placed Tusker.

The Green Army has however played a game less compared to their nemesis heading to the decisive final phase of the league campaign.

K’Ogalo is additionally engaged in the Mozzart Cup ties with a trip away to league rivals, Bandari next in their schedule in the competition’s round of 16.

Speaking of their league prospect in the season, Geoffrey Ochieng remained optimistic that the club will turn-around their fortunes and defend their crown.

“We are still in the title race and are aiming at nothing short of the league title. When you join Gor Mahia, the aim is clear: to play continental football, and you cannot play there if you do not win the league,” Ochieng said following the team’s barren draw against AFC Leopards, as quoted by a local publication.

“We always come to the stadium looking for three points, but when we get one, we take it in our stride because it is better than losing a match. We will keep fighting; at least we didn’t lose the bragging rights.
