KRU announces new Kenya 7s technical bench
Kevin Wambua has been appointed as the new Head Coach for the Kenya 7s National Team ahead of the Olympic Qualifiers.
He will lead Shujaa in their preparations for the upcoming Olympic qualifiers, set to take place in Zimbabwe.
New Kenya 7s coaches
Wambua, who previously served as an assistant coach, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the role. He has been actively involved as the head coach for Mwamba RFC in the ongoing National 7s Circuit and has previously led the Kenya Lionesses.
Assisting Wambua will be Louis Kisia, another seasoned rugby figure with Mwamba RFC roots. Kisia currently the Strathmore Leos head coach has guided them to two Kenya Cup semis and Christie 7s win.
The coaching staff also includes former Kenya 7s captain, Andrew Amonde, who takes on the role of Strength & Conditioning Coach.
Lameck Bogonko will serve as the Physiotherapist, ensuring the players’ fitness and well-being throughout. Completing the skilled Technical Bench are Chris Brown as a Consultant, Strength and Conditioning Coach, and Eric Ogweno as Team Liaison, who will play pivotal roles in supporting the team.
Faith in Kenya 7s coaches
The Kenya Rugby Union Chairman, Sasha Mutai, expressed confidence in the newly-appointed Technical Bench and their ability to lead the Kenya 7s team to success.
He highlighted their dedication and skill in steering the team towards achieving their goals.
“As the Kenya Rugby Union, we are immensely proud and excited to announce the Technical Bench that will lead our Kenya 7s team during the Olympic qualifiers. We have full confidence in Coach Kevin Wambua and his team, who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and skill in their respective fields. With their expertise and the unwavering support of our fans, we are confident that our team will make our nation proud as they strive for success on the international stage,” KRU Chairman stated.
“Together, we look forward to a promising future for Kenyan rugby and witnessing the incredible achievements of our team on the global stage,” he concluded.
The Kenya 7s team will be participating in the Rugby Africa 7s tournament in September, which serves as the Paris 2024 Olympic qualifier.
