Drama ensued in the National Assembly during the debate on the Political Parties (Amendment) Bill after Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro accused Wajir Woman Representative Fatuma Gedi of allegedly dishing money to the Azimio La Umoja leaning legislators to sway them into voting in a certain way.

The vocal lawmaker, who rose on a point of order, stated that Gedi was moving around with cash. His concern came right after nominated MP David Sankok asked the presiding chair of the Committee of the Whole House to establish what Gedi was distributing to fellow lawmakers.

“We saw money being distributed by Honourable Fatuma Gedi to members who are voting for this Political Parties (Amendment) Bill. I want to tell them, you can bribe the honourable members here but you cannot bribe the people of Kenya. As a son of Mau Mau, I cannot be intimidated by these hecklers and Covid Billionaires. There is evidence madam speaker that money was changing hands in this House, ” Nyoro said.

The claim by the Ruto-allied lawmaker sparked reactions in the Assembly, with Homabay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga challenging Nyoro to substantiate his claims.

“Ndindi Nyoro has made a totally reckless and unfounded claim. I would like him to substantiate his claim or withdraw it,” Gladys Wanga said.

The speaker however established that Fatuma Gedi was indeed distributing lollipops to her colleagues. Ndindi Nyoro was given marching orders for misleading the House as Gedi earned herself a one-day suspension for disorderly conduct.

“Having misled the house, I order Hon. Ndindi Nyoro is to be removed from the precincts of parliament for two days for violating standing orders 107. Honourable Fatuma Gedi you were out of order for distributing food in the house and for disorderly conduct you deserve to be out of the precincts of the house for a day,” the speaker decreed.
