Ruto cites the bible in fresh justification of broad-based formation

President William Ruto on Sunday, June 15, 2025, turned to the holy book in his latest justification of his bid to unite Kenyans under the broad-based government arrangement.
Speaking during a function in Kakamega County, the president cited the Psalmist scripture on peaceful and harmonious dwelling as a basis that informed the formation of the pact with Raila Odinga ratified on Friday, March 7, 2025.
The president held that such unity is a source of blessing to the nation.

“Our priest has read to us the word of God on the importance of peace and unity. In Psalm 133:1, it is stated how pleasant it is when brethren dwell together in unity. He further said that through the unity of the nation and its citizens, God instructs peace. We are very thankful to the priest,” he stated.
“When you gave me the mandate to rule, I took it upon myself to root out the divisive issues caused by tribal, regional, and political affiliations so as to unite Kenyans. The priest says it’s the will of God for people to coexist in unity. Some people have been asking, why broad-based? Why bring those who did not vote for us to the government? Thank the priest for helping me answer them. You have helped me answer these people with questions,” he quizzed.
Jibe at the opposition
Ruto also took the occasion to extol leaders hailing from the western region for their unwavering support of the new arrangement.
He also reiterated his commitment to continue in his quest to unite all Kenyans.
“I want to thank all these leaders here and those who supported our agreement when we came together with Raila. I say thank you. I’m committed to uniting this country. I urge you, people of Kakamega, to join me in this endeavour,” he added.
Ruto also took a jab at Kenya’s opposition stating that they lack a plan for the country’s future and that handing them power would be a mistake.

He stated that despite their incessant calls of wanting to get him out of power, it would also be a mistake to entrust such rudderless people with authority.
“These other people have no plan, and we cannot hand over leadership to people without a plan whose only agenda is ‘Ruto must go, Ruto must go.’ How will that help you? You don’t know how our youth will get jobs, you don’t know how agriculture will progress, and you don’t know how children will get an education. You have no plan to do anything,” he said.
The head of state was accompanied by Lugari MP, Nabii Nabwera, Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa, and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, among other leaders.
