Second-time Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has left many guessing his next political move after his fallout with President William Ruto and his removal from the helm of the powerful Budget and Appropriations Committee.

Nyoro, who is a former key UDA pointman in Murang’a County has focused his efforts in the budget committee, interrogating key financial statements and his Kiharu Constituency where he has been launching various projects.

The youthful MP who is regarded a key contestant for Mt Kenya political kingpin has avoided various political formations in the region, one coalescing around Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and the other led by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Nyoro was a close ally to President William Ruto and acted as his right-hand man until their fall out late last year.

Ruling party

Ndindi played a key role in the campaigns which saw UDA take the leadership as the ruling party and prior to the elections, he was touted to become Ruto’s running mate, a position that was taken by Rigathi Gachagua.

Even after missing being the second in command, there were speculations that he might be appointed to the cabinet, and the constituents were reading for a by-election, but this too did not happen.

However, the MP was handed one of the most coveted seats in the National Assembly, the chairperson of Budget and Appropriations Committee and having a background in economics, his skills would come in handy.

Being involved in the budget making process saw him work closely with the executive as his main role would be to oversee the government’s fiscal agenda.

Ruto pointman

Throughout the 2023 and part of 2024 all seemed well as the Mp would accompany the president in most of his tours across the country and at times he would be sent to represent him.

However late 2024, he started fading out of the public limelight after the Gen Z protests, which had been sparked by the Finance Bill 2024.

Months later, the motion to have Gachagua impeached was tabled in the national assembly, and the MP did not sign it and also did not participate in the voting.

This reportedly caused a major fallout with the president, which saw Ndindi removed from the seat as the chair of the budget committee. A once-close political alliance was broken.

Speaking days after his removal, Ndindi said he was grateful for the opportunity he had been given to serve in that position promising to support his successor as he still remains the member of committee.

Since then, the MP has constantly been making tours in the constituency to launch various development projects.

The MP has had special focus in the education sector and has established a program dubbed ‘masomo bora’ which sees the day scholars in the area pay only Ksh1,000 per term.

In addition all the public schools have been renovated, with the classrooms being tiled and repainted giving them a new look.

“My aim is to ensure no child in my constituency misses going to school due to lack of fees, and I also ensure their learning environment is conducive,” he said.
