Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna says he will lower fuel prices if elected president in gratitude for donations toward his State House ambition.

Speaking in Kamukuywa, Bungoma County, on Saturday, July 26, 2026, Sifuna defended Linda Mwananchi’s reliance on small contributions from ordinary Kenyans, saying he would rather owe thousands of Kenyans than wealthy individuals who could demand favours from the government.

“The Ksh10 that Kenyans are contributing is enough. It is better to owe Kenyans than to owe a few rich people who will demand tenders once we form government,” Sifuna said.

He promised to repay Kenyans for their support by reducing the cost of fuel if the movement forms the next government.

“When we form government, I will repay that Ksh10 by reducing the price of fuel by Ksh10,” he said.

Sifuna roots for democracy

Besides his promise on fuel prices, Sifuna called for a return to democratic governance, saying development projects alone cannot be used to justify poor leadership or disregard for democratic principles.

He said the country needed a government guided by values and respect for democracy.

“Lazima serikali iwe serikali ya madili. Tuheshimu demokrasia. Usianze kusema sisi hatuna sera. Tunataka turudi nchi hii kwa reli ya demokrasia,” Sifuna said.

The senator said the ability to build roads and stadiums should not be the only measure used to judge a government, arguing that even authoritarian leaders can deliver development projects.

Sifuna said the debate should go beyond the construction of infrastructure to include the values and principles guiding the government.

“Hata Sifuna anaweza kujenga barabara na dictator pia anaweza kujenga stadium. The choice is now yours,” he said.

His remarks come as the opposition-backed Linda Mwananchi movement intensifies its political mobilisation across the country ahead of the 2027 General Election.

I will not let you down

Sifuna also thanked leaders who have expressed support for the movement, including Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, Funyula MP Wilberforce Oundo and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya.

“Natembeya amenishikilia, alisema nitangulie. Sio ati kwa sababu yeye hawezi kuwa rais, amesema nitangulie mbele, nikiingia pia yeye ameingia,” Sifuna said.

Sifuna urged supporters to remain committed to the political journey, promising not to abandon them.

“Tukianza hii safari nitageuka nipate mmetoroka? Tutaenda mpaka mwisho hii safari. Mimi sitawaangusha na nyinyi msiniangushe,” he said.
