New Tusker signing Erick Kapaito has explained why he chose the former Premier League champions ahead of the 2023/24 season.

Kapaito inked a one-year contract with the Brewers and has explained what informed his decision to return to Kenya despite reported interests elsewhere. Before his deal with Tusker was confirmed, the former Kariobangi Sharks forward had been reported to be on the verge of joining Zambian top-flight side Zanaco FC.

Tusker are a blessing

“It is a great feeling and a great blessing, and I believe Tusker are one of the biggest teams in the country, and playing for such a club is a blessing.

“It was not that hard [choosing Tusker], because if you look at the team’s structures and ideologies, they have also been winning league titles,” Kapaito told the club’s website.

The Harambee Star found himself clubless after he parted ways with Ethiopian side Arba Minch City, which was relegated at the end of last season. Recounting his time in Ethiopia, Kapaito stated what he learned while playing outside Kenya.

“I believe I learned a lot from that side, and the experience will be of help back home. The experience and learning that I should add are what I learned there, which I believe are valuable lessons.

“I have no pressure; I have handled myself since I was in the lower leagues, but again, pressure helps one grow. I will take the pressure however it comes, but I believe it will help me build myself,” he added.

Targets

The forward once again reiterated his target, which is to help Tusker with vital goals.

“The team signed me to score goals, and I pray to God that I remain fit so that I can get the goals that I need to give to the team. One has to score in order for the team to win, and being a striker, the team comes first.

“I am targeting double-digit goals, and if I achieve them, it will be good,” he concluded.

He is expected to offer stiff competition to Ibrahim Joshua, Deogratius Ojok, and new signing Benjamin Mwangi in the striking department.
