Wetang’ula donates Ksh2M to Nzoia Sugar FC

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has announced a Ksh2 million donation to Nzoia Sugar Football Club.
In a statement on X on Thursday, December 5, 2024, Wetang’ula said the funds would be used to address some of the logistical challenges the National Super League (NSL) side is facing.
“Sporting is critical both for keeping our health in check as well as nurturing talent. I have donated Kshs. 2 million to the management of Nzoia Sugar FC to help address some of the logistical challenges the National Super League (NSL) side is facing and ensure it successfully navigates the remainder of the season,” Wetang’ula stated.
“As an ardent fan of the team, I encouraged the Nzoia Sugar FC Chairman, Evans Kadenge to continue keeping the momentum of the Football club through strengthening the team in training & skill specialisation.”
The club has been cash-strapped for months now after Nzoia Sugar Company, their main sponsor, withdrew its financial support.
The club has been operating under a constrained financial environment, with unpaid salaries and logistical challenges.
“I have assured Mr Kadenge, the son of former football legend Joe Kadenge, of my commitment to walk with the team to ensure that it achieves its goals and maintains a prime position in the Kenya premier league,” Wetang’ula stated.
“I was in the company of MPs Hon. John Makali (Kanduyi) and Senator Wakoli Wafula (Bungoma) when Kadenge paid me a courtesy visit in my office. I urge Leaders in the country to encourage the youth to diversify their skills to include sports for both economic gains and health.”
Currently, Nzoia Sugar FC sits 18th in the NSL log having garnered 11 points from 9 matches.
