The Kenya national men’s volleyball team squad for the 2023 CAVB Africa Men’s Nations Cup has been named.

The tournament has been scheduled to take place from September 1 to 14, and with Kenya preparing for the event, the provisional squad has been trimmed to 16 players.

Nick Kimutai of the Kenya Defence Forces and Kenya Prisons’ Timothy Kipruto have been dropped. Two more players are set to be dropped from the Wafalme squad as the technical bench, led by Gideon Tarus, is expected to trim it further to 14 players.

Tarus in charge

The team is led by a newly-appointed technical bench under Tarus, who is a title-winning coach and is also in charge of the General Service Unit.

As he prepares the national side for the continental duel in Egypt, Tarus is expected to be inspired by his previous achievement when he led Wafalme to a historic win against Egypt two years ago.

Kenya Prisons’ David Lung’aho, who has handled the women’s team, Malkia Strikers, before, is Tarus’ first assistant coach, while Kenya Ports Authority tactician Sammy Mulinge serves as the second assistant coach.
