Vihiga Queens ready for crown
Three-time Football Kenya Federation (FKF) women premier league champions Vihiga Queens extended their form on league standings after thrashing hapless and visiting Kayole Starlets 7-0 on Sunday at Mumias Sports Complex in Mumias.
Vihiga while welcoming visiting Kayole at their theatre of dreams, cruised to a healthy 4-0 lead at halftime before adding three more in the second stanza to take all the three points that took them 44 points at the top of the 12-teams league after 16 rounds of matches.
Topister Situma was hailed for her mastery of the game, scoring four of the seven goals with her compatriot Eve Chemutai grabbing a brace to add on to the opening goal scored by Mercy Anyango assisted by Janet Bundi and captain fantastic Enez Mango who both contributed two assists each for the resounding victory.
Unbeaten record
“It’s exciting to maintain our unbeaten record, and as I said previously if we continue winning our matches, then we have every reason to start celebrating. We have every reason to start believing in winning the league,” excited coach Boniface Nyamunyamuh said.
The huge 11 points lead they have established between them and second-placed Ulinzi Starlets (33 points) is considered a sure surge towards title coronation. Ulinzi Starlets won 2-1 over visiting Nakuru City Queens at Ruaraka Grounds to keep some catching up the distance.
However, with five matches remaining, the chase seems to be over as Vihiga needs only two wins out of the five remaining matches to reclaim their title.
Siliya Rasoha, and on form Jentrix Kuyudi scored for the soldiers while outstanding Nabangala Nyongesa scored the consolation goal for the losers.
Defending champions Thika Queens continued to fall off the race to defend their title after losing 2-1 to hosts Zetech Sparks. Elizabeth Khisa, an own goal from Juliet Andipo and another goal from Stella Anyango settled the scores between the two teams.
