Tusker banks on Ojok, Joshua in premier league title final duels
Foreign players’ connection in Tusker is finally paying dividends for the team during the late stages of the 2021/22 Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League.
Tusker are second behind Kakamega Homeboyz on the table standings and should they successfully defend the title, two players in Ugandan Deogratius Ojok and Ibrahim Joshua of Tanzania will stand up to be counted among those who inspired the team to the silverware.
The duo seems unstoppable and at this rate, to say that the title is Tusker’s to win is not too much to ask, at least in the eyes of bookmakers.
Already, Joshua and Ojok say they are eyeing double-digit goals after both got into the score sheet recently in a 2-0 victory against Kakamega Homeboyz in Ruaraka.
Joshua broke his goal drought by opening the scoring in the first half and he says he was delighted to finally get on the score sheet.
“I am thankful for the goal because I had gone for almost five games without scoring. It was important to get the goal not just for myself but for the team as well. That match was like a final and we are thankful we managed to win,” Joshua said on Tusker’s official portal.
In Tusker’s latest matches, Joshua has been on-song leaving many to wonder how he has escaped the eyes of the Tanzanian national team, Taifa Stars, and selectors.
As for Ojok, he scored the second goal, taking his season tally to eight and his seventh coming off the bench.
“It was a very tough game and when I came in, we were under so much pressure. We needed to score a second goal to reduce the pressure and I am glad I scored,” he said.
The striker added: “Scoring gives me confidence for the next game.
We have like four games remaining and I want to continue helping the team.”
“I am happy for Ibra (Ibrahim Joshua) because finally, he ended his goal drought,” Ojok added even as he chided his teammate for failing to find the back of the net.
