Three-star KCB too strong for Vihiga
KCB made a dream return to the Kenyan Premier League after blitzing Vihiga Bullets 3-1 at Utalii Grounds yesterday.
Harambee Stars trialist Michael Mutinda put the Bankers ahead in the 23rd minute with a clinically executed strike, before James Mazembe doubled the advantage in the 42nd minute.
A lapse in Vihiga’s defence saw them concede again in the 69 minute and for all their efforts towards the end, they were only rewarded with a face-saving goal.
The league had been halted for three weeks after Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed disbanded Football Kenya Federation (FKF) on November 18 and re- placed it with a caretaker committee to run the sport for six months pending fresh elections.
During a busy schedule which started on Saturday, Wazito chalked their win after eclipsing Ulinzi Stars 1-0, former Sony striker star Amos Asembeka scoring the lone goal in the 23 minute.
However, there was no glut of goals as expected with Sofapaka and FC Talanta posting the ‘highest’ margin (2-0) over Kenya Po- lice and Mathare United respectively.
As Talanta were stretching their giant-killing antics by dispatching Mathare, Sofapaka proved too good for Police whose poor run continued in their first ever participation in the top league.
Like Police, AFC Leopards had a weekend to forget af- ter going down 1-0 to Bidco United.
Kariobangi Sharks came too close to equalling the feat by Talanta and Sofapaka when they beat Nairobi City Stars 2-1 with Sharks coach William Muluya was content with the results, and lauded his charges for their character.
