‘Govt will give you support’ – Sports CS Murkomen assures newly-elected FKF President Hussein Mohammed
Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has vowed to support the newly-elected Football Kenya Federation (FKF) leadership.
FKF’s new officials were elected on Saturday, December 7, 2024, in an exercise that was conducted at Moi International Sports Centre, where Hussein Mohammed won the presidency.
While stating that he has confidence in the new officials, the CS assured them of support.
“I made a solemn promise during my vetting for this docket that I would unlock the election impasse in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and that we shall enforce the law of term limits. That promise has been fulfilled today following the election of new office bearers of FKF.
“Congratulations, Hussein Mohammed and McDonald Mariga, on your election today as the President and Vice President of FKF, respectively. Congratulations to all other elected office bearers. I have not an iota of doubt that you’re the best possible team that will inject new dynamism, energy, and fresh ideas into the management of our football.
“I wish to assure you that the government will give you all the support you need to take our football to the next level. To Hussein and the new team, I wish you Godspeed!” Murkomen said in a statement on X.
He took the opportunity to urge other federations to hold their respective elections as soon as possible.
“This should send a message to all federations that frustrate efforts to hold elections that their time is up. Good governance in our sports is not negotiable,” he concluded.
