KRA explains reason behind iTax portal delays ahead of filing deadline
The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has issued an important update to taxpayers after the iTax portal experienced intermittent delays on the final day of filing 2025 income tax returns.
In a statement released on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, KRA acknowledged that millions of taxpayers had already filed and paid their taxes, thanking them for complying with their tax obligations.
However, the tax authority noted that as the filing deadline draws to a close, the iTax portal has witnessed a significant surge in traffic, resulting in intermittent delays for some users attempting to submit their returns.
KRA assured taxpayers that its technical teams are working around the clock to maintain system stability and ensure the platform remains accessible as more Kenyans rush to beat the deadline.

Despite the temporary delays, the authority encouraged taxpayers who are yet to file their returns to continue using the iTax portal or dial 2225# to complete the process before the deadline expires tonight.
‘The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) appreciates the millions of taxpayers who have filed and paid their taxes to date. As the filing deadline draws to a close today, the iTax portal has experienced a significant surge in traffic and as a result, some users may experience intermittent delays. Our technical teams are working around the clock to maintain system stability and support,” KRA stated.
The update comes as thousands of taxpayers make last-minute attempts to comply with the annual tax filing requirement, with heavy traffic expected to persist until the filing window officially closes at midnight on June 30, 2026.
KRA’s final warning

This comes moments after the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) issued a final warning to millions of taxpayers across the country, urging Kenyans to file their 2025 income tax returns before the June 30 midnight deadline or risk penalties for non-compliance.
In a statement shared on its X account on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, KRA made a last-minute appeal to taxpayers, reminding them that time had run out and no deadline extension would be granted this year.
“Last call to file your tax returns, do it now or forever hold your peace,” KRA said in the statement.
