Shabana FC suffered a 1-0 defeat to Mathare United at Gusii Stadium on Sunday, October 26, 2025. The only goal of the game came in the 39th minute, leaving the Kisii-based side frustrated after a hard-fought match in the league.

The Glamour Boys began the season strongly, winning two of their first three matches and drawing once. They defeated APS Bomet 4-2, with winger Bryan Michira scoring twice, followed by a 1-0 victory over Bandari at Mbaraki Stadium on September 28, 2025, and a draw against Tusker FC.

These wins placed Shabana at the top of the table early on. However, their unbeaten run ended with a 2-1 loss to league leaders Posta Rangers.

Shabana struggle at home

Sunday’s match against Mathare United was expected to be a chance for Shabana to return to winning ways.

Coach Peter Okidi’s side, however, was without key players. Michira remained sidelined due to injury, while captain George Onyango and Mark Oduor were also unavailable. Despite this, Shabana was boosted by the return of Austin Odongo.

On the other side, the Slum Boys, have struggled in the opening rounds. They earned four points from four games, including a narrow 1-0 win over KCB, a 2-1 loss to Posta Rangers, a goalless draw with Tusker FC, and a 2-1 defeat in the Slum Derby against Kariobangi Sharks.

The match was closely contested. Shabana controlled possession at times and looked to use their home advantage. However, Mathare’s disciplined defence and quick counter-attack paid off in the 39th minute when they broke the deadlock, courtesy of Dennis Okoth. Shabana pressed hard in the second half but could not find a way past Mathare’s backline.

The defeat leaves Shabana in a difficult position in the league standings. A win could have pushed them closer to the summit, especially with Posta Rangers facing Gor Mahia and the possibility of dropping points.
