Roy Okal explains his ambitious target after joining Nairobi United
Newly signed Nairobi United defensive midfielder Roy Okal is looking forward to winning trophies with the Football Kenya Federation Premier League outfit as the club prepares for a busy football calendar in 2026.
Speaking shortly after he was unveiled in Nairobi on Monday, January 5, 2026, the former Sofapaka FC man said it is a great feeling to join Nairobi United under the tutelage of Nicholas Muyoti, before adding that he is ready for the challenge ahead.
The utility man is expected to help anchor Nairobi United’s midfield with his vast experience at the top level, having also played for Mathare United.
Okal ambitious
”It is a great feeling to sign for such an ambitious club. I am also ready to take up the challenge. As a player, I would like to win a trophy because they won a trophy coming into the Premier League. So I would also like to win something with the club. I will step up to the challenge and improve more as a player,” Okal noted.
Roy Okal was unveiled as a Nairobi United player alongside John Njuguna. Confirming the arrival of the recruits on Monday, January 5, 2025, Naibois expressed optimism in the pair as the side seeks stability in local football and continental assignments.

”Twice the talent, double the threat. We are thrilled to officially announce the double signing of Roy Okal and John Njuguna. Roy joins us from Sofapaka to pull the strings in midfield, while Njuguna brings the fire to our wings,” the club statement read.
The pair arrives at the moment when Nicholas Muyoti’s charges are seeking to retain the FKF trophy and finish as high as possible in the league standings.
John Njuguna, an attacking midfielder, joins the team from Tusker FC. He is expected to bring a wealth of experience to the team, supplementing the attacking department with goals and assists.
Playing continentally
Speaking on joining Nairobi United, John Njuguna said: ”It feels nice to be here. Playing continentally is one of the factors I considered before coming here.”
Nairobi United’s management has also revamped the technical bench of the team as the league resumes in January 2026 after the holiday break, a move aimed at enhancing tactical input and overall performance ahead of a busy 2026 calendar that includes domestic competitions and continental action.
