Defending champions Premier Academy are this year’s winners of the Lisle Shaw Memorial Inter-School Junior Golf Tournament held at the par 72 Royal Nairobi Golf Club on Wednesday. The school defended the trophy having won it in the year 2021.

This year, Premier Academy submitted three teams for the main event. The team led by captain Lee Kimathi managed an impressive team score of 249 gross to emerge the overall winners. The team consisted of Kimathi who managed 79 gross, Junaid Manji (80), Ishan Samani (84) and Mitansh Thacker (91). Kimathi, Junaid and Ishan were part of the team that won in the year 2021 title with Mitansh being the only new face in the winning group.

The runner up in the main event is Rosslyn Academy who managed a team score of 250 gross. The team consisted of Jelani Kihanya (88), Audrey Gachora (83), Hazel Kuria (95) and former Sports Personality of the Year Awards (SOYA) winner Chanelle Wangari (79). Coming joint third was Oshwal Academy-Junior High which consisted of Kushagra Sharma (85), Krish Beiju Shah (84) and Matthew Mbogo while Crawford International School consisted of Austin Gitahi (96), Bradley Kinyua (91), Leo Gitonga (92) and Manav Sarit Shah (96).

In the Subsidiary Category Braeside School won with a team net score of 159. The team consisted of Lucius Tumelo (82), Guanze Wang (77) and Kareen Kariuki (111). Coming second in the category was the Peponi House team consisting of Shayani Savani (76) and Theuri Kanyogo (92).

Chanelle Wangari played the best gross score of 79 in the individual category beating Lee Kimathi of Premier Academy on Countback. The best nett in the subsidiary was won by Shayani Savani of Peponi House having played a nett score of 76.

This year’s event attracted a total of 15 schools and 86 players. The schools that took part include Premier Academy, Braeside School, Peponi School, Peponi House school, Aga-Khan Academy, Swedish School Nairobi, Crawford International School, St Andrew’s Turi, Braeburn- Garden Estate, Braeburn – Gitanga Road, Rossyln Academy, Rusinga School, Oshwal Academy –Junior High, Hillcrest Secondary School and Makini Cambridge.

Each of the participating schools fielded a total of 20 teams for the main event and three teams for the subsidiary event.

The Lisle Shaw Memorial Interschool Tournament is held annually in memory of George Lisle Gordon Shaw who was the Kenya Golf Union (KGU) Chairman in 1953. The venue of the event is traditionally Royal Nairobi Golf Club and is held on the last Wednesday of every October. The event consists of the main category where the best 3 scores count for the team of four and the subsidiary event where the best 2 nett scores count for the team of three.

The JGF president Larry Ngala speaking during the event appreciated Royal Nairobi Golf Club for hosting the event and all schools for participating. She promised that more inter-school tournaments will be organized. She also appreciated Lenana School who were present during the event and are developing a golf course in the school.
