Nyamweya, 47 County associations’ call for clear FKF elections roadmap
Football administrator Sam Nyamweya and 47 registered County associations have called on Sports CS Ababu Namwamba to unveil a clear road for the upcoming Football Kenya Federation (FKF) elections insisting they are reading mischief from the incumbent officials.
In a statement signed by Nyamweya, who met 47 County Football Association officials led by their chairmen in Nakuru, the stakeholders praised President William Ruto and Namwamba for their relentless efforts to streamline sports and more so football in the country.
According to Nyamweya, the meeting further called on Namwamba to ensure that the forthcoming exercise is conducted under the Sports Act.
“We urge the CS to ensure elections will be conducted under the Sports Act by January 24 next year and ask the Minister to give a clear roadmap on the elections because it looks like there is mischief from FKF,” read part of the statement.
“The grassroots football leaders also urged the world football governing body FIFA and the continental body CAF to respect the law of the country and specifically the Sports Act,” adding: “We hope the elections will be done in a free and conducive environment where all the candidates will be given respect and urged all the competitors to conduct their campaigns with decorum and decency which will be the hallmark of our democracy.”
Meanwhile, Nyamweya and the officials took their time to congratulate Kenya’s Rising Starlets, who defeated Angola 10-1 on aggregate to qualify for the third round of the FIFA U20 World Cup qualifiers.
