Mwanja backs Lionesses chase for Sevens qualification

Kenya Lionesses coach Dennis Mwanja is confidence of a good showing as the team lay quest for the coveted HSBC World Sevens Series berth with the trip to Krakow, Poland.
The Lady’s rugby side shifts gear to the task in Poland slated for Friday, April 11, 2025 to Saturday, 12 coming off an impressive performance in the challenger series.
Speaking ahead of the trip, Mwanja tipped the girls to rise to the occasion and get the job done.
Finishing the job
“We have worked hard to be in this position, and now it’s about finishing the job. The players understand what’s at stake, and we are ready to give our all,” Mwanja told KRU.
In the Krakow series, Kenya has been drawn into Pool A, where they will face Belgium, Colombia, and Thailand.
The Lionesses will be buoyed by their performance coming off the two challenger’s series in South Africa.
Kenya decisively won both the challenger series.
Lionesses claimed the first championship of the Cape Town Seven Challenger after edging Argentina 17- 12 in the finals on Sunday, March 3, 2025. They replicated the same in the second finals beating South Africa to complete an unbeaten run in the first two legs.
Captain Grace Okulu, whose influence and leadership proved pivotal in the South Africa tests, will be relied upon to extend her leadership acumen along with Judith Okumu and Freshia Oduor who inspired the success against Argentina in the Cape Town challenger series.
Play-offs spot
Krakow showdown will be the third and final round of the series with four teams looking to secure play-off berths in America.
The top four teams from this decisive leg will advance to the playoffs in Los Angeles, where they will battle for a dream spot in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.
