President Yoweri Museveni has fulfilled his pledge to the Uganda Cranes by rewarding the national team with a cheque worth UGX 2.4 billion (approximately Ksh88.5 million) following their spirited performance in the recently concluded African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament.

Taking to his official X account on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, night, Museveni revealed that together with his wife, Janet Museveni, he had hosted the team for dinner at State House Entebbe, where he commended their resilience on the pitch.

Museveni’s tactical analysis

He also shared his tactical analysis of their game against Algeria, stressing the importance of every player respecting their “area of responsibility” to avoid exposing the defence and goalkeeper.

“This evening, Maama and I hosted the Uganda Cranes for dinner at Entebbe after their commendable performance in the tournament. I took the opportunity to share a brief analysis of their game. As I joined Maama to watch the Cranes playing against Algeria recently in Nakasero after my official duties, I reflected on a principle I often teach in the military: every Force has an Area of Responsibility (AOR). When everyone goes on the offensive and leaves the defense and goalkeeper exposed, the opponent can easily exploit that gap. That was my analysis of the game,” Museveni stated.

“However, as we say in Swahili, “Tafadhali,” our team’s efforts cannot go unappreciated. The Cranes fought valiantly. As promised, we have fulfilled our pledge to them, as motivation is an essential part of building capacity.”

The Ugandan President also congratulated the Local Organising Committee, chaired by the First Lady, for successfully co-hosting the continental event alongside Kenya and Tanzania, describing it as both a sports achievement and a lesson in regional unity.

“Finally, I want to congratulate the Local Organising Committee, chaired by Maama, for successfully hosting our first continental tournament, in partnership with Kenya and Tanzania. This event was not only a sports competition but also a lesson in unity and regional capacity,” Museveni wrote on X.
