Kenya Morans are set for a high-stakes showdown in the 2025 Afrobasket Qualifiers this weekend in Libya, where they will battle Angola, Guinea and Tunisia in a bid to keep their tournament hopes alive.

With just four points from three matches, the Morans sit third in Group E and face an uphill task to break into the top two and secure qualification.

The Morans kick off their campaign tomorrow with a tricky opener against group leaders Tunisia before facing African basketball powerhouse Angola on Saturday. They will then wrap up their pool stage matches against Guinea on Sunday.

Kenya’s contingent, led by head coach Cliff Owuor, is already in camp fine-tuning preparations for the final qualifying window ahead of the Ivory Coast showpiece scheduled for August this year.

The team will be captained by seasoned 5’9” shooting guard Victor Bosire, 37, who has 28 caps for the national team, with experienced Nairobi City Thunder forward Tyler Ongwae, 34, serving as his deputy.

Coach Owuor, alongside assistants Ancent Wafula and Robert Mugabe, has assembled a formidable 12-man squad featuring top talent from Kenya and beyond.

The lineup includes the impressive quartet from Thunder’s BAL-conquering side (Derrick Ogechi, Albert Odero, Eugene Adera and Griffin Ligare).

Other key players in the squad are seven-footer Bush Wamukota (centre), Joel Awich (forward), Bramwell Mwombe (centre), Salim Kisilu (forward), Blacio Owuor (centre) and Fidel Okoth (forward).

Kenya’s realisation of their dream would very well be dependent on tactics.

As per the numbers so far, Morans will only succeed if they win big against Tunisia with one of the  hosts and already qualified Angola get humbled by Guinea.

According to permutations, it will be difficult to see Kenya get eliminated from Friday’s contest with two more games lined up.

At the same time, for Tunisia who have so far won their pool matches,a simple win against Kenya with Angola beating Guinea  sees them through on account of number of wins and points aggregate.
