Members of the sporting fraternity in Western region are deep in mourning after the demise of veteran writer  Titus Maero who was found in his house hanging on a rope on Thursday night.

According to his brother Alfred Maero, the deceased has been living alone since he divorced his wife 20 years ago.

“It’s a big blow to the family . He has been a very serious cane farmer besides his work as a journalist,” said the brother.

Navakholo police boss Richard Omanga revealed that a suicide letter was found in the house of the deceased but could not reveal its contents as he urged the public to remain patient as investigations were being undertaken.

Kakamega Homeboyz chairman Cleophas Shimanyula termed the demise of Maero as a big blow to the sporting fraternity.

“He has been one of the hard working writers who maintained professionalism and his services will be badly missed,” he said.

Western Kenya Handball  Federation chairman Akaka Shisoka stated that through Maero’s expertise the sport has grown in the region and condoled with family.

Sacrifice a lot

Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malalah termed Maero’s death as painful and urged media houses to support the correspondents who sacrifice a lot to reach different corners seeking for news.

The 59-year-old was blessed with two children. His body is lying in Kakamega General Hospital mortuary as the family embarks on burial arrangements to be held in Navakholo sub-county.
