Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has criticised Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki over their handling of political violence, saying the government should prioritise arrests instead of issuing public statements.

Speaking on the issue of goon attacks in a video seen by People Daily Digital on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, Wamuchomba questioned why the government continues to hold press conferences claiming to know those responsible while failing to take action against them.

“This issue of seeing CS Murkomen making press conferences, saying that he knows who is behind who has goons, should stop. Why doesn’t he arrest them? The Deputy President Kithure Kindiki is also all over social media writing, ‘stop goonism’ Why doesn’t he use his office to arrest the goons?” Wamuchomba said.

The lawmaker argued that anyone found financing or organising criminal gangs should be arrested alongside the individuals carrying out the attacks.

“If I have the goons, I should be arrested together with my goons, and the same should happen to the others so that this issue can come to an end,” Wamuchomba said.

Politicising goonism

The MP further warned that the continued political discourse around goonism risks becoming similar to the Mungiki era, where, she claimed, a particular community and some politicians were politically targeted.

She has noted that the issue of goonism is being used to lay the groundwork for suppressing a section of the political divide in the future.

Linda Mwananchi attacks

Wamuchomba also called on the Interior Ministry to explain recent attacks targeting the Linda Mwananchi movement.

“Murkomen is in charge of internal security, and therefore we are telling Murkomen we don’t want more press conferences. We want to know who attacked the Linda Mwananchi movement in Kisumu and Nyahururu,” she said.

Her remarks come amid heightened political tensions and growing calls for security agencies to investigate and prosecute those responsible for politically motivated violence.
