Karua clarifies claims of PLP office demolition in Kisii
People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua has clarified claims that the party’s newly opened office in Kisii County was demolished, stating that only the perimeter fence will be moved to pave the way for an ongoing road expansion project.
In a post shared on X on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, Karua dismissed reports circulating on social media that the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) had brought down the party office.
“Office is intact only the fence needs to be moved for road expansion @KeNHAKenya,” Karua wrote.
Her statement came in response to a post by an X user claiming that the newly opened PLP office in the Nyamataro area of Kisii County had been demolished as part of KeNHA’s exercise to remove structures along the roadside.
Office remains intact
Karua’s clarification confirms that the office building remains untouched and that only the perimeter fence is affected by the road expansion works.
The clarification follows the official opening of the PLP Kisii branch office in Nyamataro, Kitutu Chache South Constituency, where Karua rallied supporters ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The launch also coincided with activities marking the Saba Saba movement, which Karua described as a defining moment in Kenya’s second liberation struggle.
“We commemorate and we remember those who shed their blood because Saba Saba was the peak of the second liberation. People lost lives, others were arrested, some were beaten up. We remember fondly that it is their footsteps that gave us the Constitution of 2010,” she said.
Karua urged Kenyans to safeguard the gains made under the 2010 Constitution and criticised the use of roadblocks during demonstrations.
“We must safeguard the gains in the Constitution. We should never be stopped from expressing our rights, our views. So long as we do it peacefully, the government should never erect blockades like they have throughout the country today,” she said.

Calls for peaceful politics
During the launch of the Kisii office, Karua called on party supporters to remain united and focus on issue-based campaigns ahead of the next General Election.
She urged political leaders to reject violence and intimidation, saying campaigns should be driven by policies rather than hostility.
“Lakini sisi, tutaendeleza kampeni zetu kwa njia ya amani. Tutauza sera zetu, hatutauza matusi, hatutauza utengano, na watu wakome mambo ya goonism,” she said.
Karua also appealed to young people not to put their lives at risk for political interests, noting that recent political violence had resulted in deaths and injuries.
“Na vijana wetu waelewe, uhai wao ni wa muhimu kushinda pesa yoyote… Mimi nasema, siasa ifanywe kwa amani. Kura iko mfukoni mwako,” she added.
Focus on grassroots expansion
The clarification comes as PLP continues expanding its grassroots structures across the country ahead of the 2027 polls.
While reports on social media suggested the Kisii office had been demolished, Karua maintained that the building remains intact and that the ongoing works only require the relocation of the perimeter fence to accommodate the road expansion.
Her statement sought to reassure supporters as the party continues establishing its presence in different parts of the country while advocating peaceful political engagement and respect for constitutional freedoms.
