KSSSA Showdown: Musingu stuns Kakamega School as Butere Girls reign

The Scorpions of Musingu High School have been crowned the Kakamega County Boys football champions after edging Butere Boys 2-0 in a thrilling final played this Saturday, June 21, 2025, in Mumias Sports Complex.
Marvin Ashiundu and Ian Shitandi’s strikes proved sufficient for the Western giants to retain the county’s championship and keep alive their quest for a second national title.
Green Commandoes stunned
Led by coach Brendan Mwinamo, the bullish scorpions had earlier laid down a marker for the championship by edging Kakamega’s School Green Commandos in the semifinals.
The former national champions needed the penalty shootout to edge Solidarity Boys 5-4 after nothing could separate them in regulation time.

In the finals against Butere Boys, who downed Munyuki Boys to reach the finale, a spirited second-half performance saw the Scorpions complete the task at the county level.
The win assured the two teams of their slots in the regional games.
Green Commandoes finished in third place after Munyuki failed to make a showing for the third-place playoffs.
St Anthony’s vs St Joseph’s abandoned
In Trans Nzoia, the much-awaited semi-final match pitting Kitale’s footballing nemesis, St. Joseph Boys (JoBo), against their archrivals, St. Anthony Boys, ended prematurely after being marred by protests.
The tie staged at the Ndura Complex was abandoned with ten minutes left to play, with St. Anthony Boys leading 3-2.
Butere too good for ABN
Meanwhile, in the girls category, Butere Girls extended their dominance against Archbishop following a stunning 2-1 comeback win over Archbishop Njenga.
The latter stormed to a first-half lead through Hilda Natecho and proved a tough nut to crack, taking their lead to the break.
Butere, boasting several players of the Harambee Starlets U17 within their ranks, came back more determined and mounted a second-half revival against the stubborn opponents.
Complete comeback
Christine Farrine sparked the comeback ten minutes after resumption, notching home to level matters.
The side then completed the fightback inside the final ten minutes after Starlets U17 ace Lorna Faith bagged the match winner.
The win avenged their 2023 loss to Bishop Njenga, who downed them by a solitary goal.
