Ksh500K non-refundable fee and other tough rules set ahead of Gor Mahia elections

The Gor Mahia FC Election Board has released election updates for candidates vying for various positions.

Gor Mahia, in a press statement released on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, announced that the election shall be held on Sunday, April 13, 2025, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.

The election, the club says, will be held at the Nyayo National Stadium, Basketball Gymnasium, Nairobi.

“Pursuant to the Gor Mahia FC Annual General Meeting (AGM) Notice of 7th March, 2025, the Club Elections are scheduled as follows: The election shall be held on Sunday, 13th April, 2025, from 0900am to 0900am-1400 hr. at the Nyayo National Stadium, Basketball Gymnasium, Nairobi,” the statement read in part.

Gor Mahia’s vacant positions

Gor Mahia further stated that four Executive Committee positions will be vacant and filled at the club’s Annual General Meeting (AGM).

They are the positions of the chairperson, vice chairperson, secretary general, and honorary treasurer.

Bona fide club members wishing to serve in any of the above positions have been invited to apply. However, tough rules, including high non-refundable fees of up to Ksh500,000, have been set.

Conditions

Candidates interested in the positions should have been active members of Gor Mahia FC for the last three years and be nominated by at least 20 branches or 20 registered members who have not endorsed or nominated another candidate in the same position.

“Article 11 of the GMFC Constitution (2019) outlines the following requirements for candidates: a) A candidate has to have been an active member of Gor Mahia FC for the last 3 (three) years. b) Be a registered member of the Club. c) To be nominated by at least 20 branches or 20 registered members who have NOT endorsed or nominated another candidate in the same position. d) Complete the prescribed Nomination Form and submit the duly completed form to the Election Board,” the statement read in part.

“All candidates will be expected to adhere to/sign the club election rules, regulations, and the election code of conduct. f) A candidate must be above 18 years old and of sound mind and produce. i) A certificate of good conduct—not more than 6 months old. ii) Credit Reference Bureau Clearance Certificate. iii) A valid KRA tax compliance certificate. iv) EACC Clearance Certificate. v) Kenya National Identity Card or Valid Passport. vi) HELB Clearance Certificate. vii) Passport-size photograph—colored. viii) Proof of payment of Nomination Fee (Bank Slip).”

Candidates vying for the chairperson position will be required to pay a non-refundable fee of Ksh500,000; Ksh450,000 for those vying for the vice chairperson position; Ksh400,000 for secretary-general and honorary treasurer.

Gor Mahia’s long-serving chairman, Ambrose Rachier, will be seeking a second term in a highly contested race pitting him against the club’s national treasurer, Dolphina Odhiambo.
