Kenya to host Africa Sitting Volleyball Championship

Kenya will host the Africa Sitting Volleyball Championships in Nairobi at Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani, between July 4 and 9, 2025, Kenya Paravolley Federation ( KPF) has now confirmed.
Speaking in Nairobi on June 2, 2025, during the national team’s training session, federation chairperson Doris Atieno said that at least six countries have confirmed their participation with four more expected to join in, a showdown that will see the two finalists book a direct ticket to the 2026 Sitting Para Volley World Championships for men and women in Hangzhou, China from July 10 and 17.
“This one is also a ParaVolley Africa Zonal Championship (PVA), a God-sent opportunity for us to win it at home and be number one in Africa, because currently we are the third-best para volleyball nation in Africa. Improving on continental rankings will push us more towards our goal of one day conquering the global stage,” Atieno smiled.
KPF also confirmed that a trio of officials from Rwanda will take charge of the continental showpiece event, led by Mukeshimana Joy Happiness, Hererimana Herman and Izerimana Raphael.
The confirmed women’s teams to join hosts Kenya are Zimbabwe, Rwanda and Congo, with Uganda, South Africa, and Burundi expected to confirm their participation soon.
The men’s teams will feature Kenya, Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Egypt, Algeria and Libya, with three more nations expected to confirm their participation.
Atieno’s charges are currently training with a provisional squad of 30 players for both men and women’s teams that was named back in April at the Nyayo Indoor Gymnasium, Nairobi, but will have to drop a player from both genders to make it 14 players each as per World Para Volleyball guidelines for the final list that will represent Kenya for this assignment in July.
After this continental event, there is also the 2025 Sitting Volleyball World Cup in Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA on 12- 18th October where the first and second placed teams will qualify for China next year to the World Championships that will have 32 teams, 16 apiece for both genders with the four 2025 zone championships providing over half of the available slots per gender.
