The Kenya Lionesses booked their place in the 2025 Africa Women’s Sevens final after defeating Uganda 17–10 in a tense semi-final at the RFUEA Grounds on Sunday, November 16, 2025.

Uganda made the brighter start. Peace Lekuru crossed for an unconverted try to give the Lady Cranes a 5–0 lead. Kenya responded immediately when Freshia Oduor grabbed a turnover and raced clear to level the match. Oduor struck again just before half-time, breaking through the Ugandan defence to send Kenya into the interval 10–5 ahead.

Uganda came back strongly after the restart and pulled the score to 10–10, raising the pressure on the home side. With the match in the balance, Naomi Amuguni produced the key moment, grounding the decisive try in the closing stages to secure Kenya’s win and a place in the final.

Dominant run continues

The Lionesses had reached the semi-final after a dominant quarter-final performance. They swept aside Zimbabwe 33–12 on Sunday morning, extending an impressive run that began with a perfect opening day.

Freshia Awino led the way in the last-eight clash, scoring a hat-trick that kept Kenya in full control. Nelly Chikombe and Phoebe Akinyi also added tries, while Grace Adhiambo converted reliably throughout the match.

The victory over Zimbabwe followed a strong pool campaign. Kenya opened their tournament with a 44–0 win over Ivory Coast before hammering Ghana 37–0 in their final pool match.

In the Ghana match, the Lionesses scored freely, with Adhiambo, Naomi Amuguni, Freshia Oduor, Janet Okello, Moreen Muritu and Chikombe all getting on the scoresheet. By the end of Day One, Kenya had scored 114 points without conceding.

Uganda also arrived in the semi-finals in good form, having beaten Tunisia 31–12 in their quarter-final. South Africa were the other team to progress, following a 48–0 victory over Ghana. Madagascar edged Zambia 17–7 in the remaining quarter-final.

Kenya will now face South Africa in the final. The Bok Women reached the championship match after a commanding 29–0 win against Madagascar in their semi-final. The meeting sets up a repeat of last year’s final, which South Africa won 12–7 in Ghana.
