Gor parts ways with CEO Oruo after a trophyless season
In a dramatic turn of events at Gor Mahia Football Club, the record Kenyan champions have announced a mutual parting of ways with Chief Executive Officer Ray Oruo, just hours after the entire technical bench was shown the door in the wake of a trophyless 2024/25 season.
In a statement released on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, the club said they had mutually parted ways with Oruo as part of the restructuring ahead of the next campaigns.
“Gor Mahia Football Club wishes to announce that it has mutually agreed to part ways with Chief Executive Officer, Ray Oruo,” read the statement.
The exit of Oruo marks yet another major change in the club’s leadership structure, as Gor Mahia looks to hit the reset button after a disappointing campaign that saw them miss out on both domestic and continental silverware.
While the club did not explicitly link Oruo’s departure to the team’s performance, the timing—just hours after the sacking of the technical team—suggests a sweeping internal shake-up is underway.
The statement, signed by Vice Chairperson Sally Bolo, acknowledged Oruo’s contribution during his tenure:
“We thank Oruo for his service and contributions to the club during his tenure and wish him the very best in his future endeavours,” read the statement.
No immediate replacement was announced, but the club assured fans that the recruitment process is imminent:
“The club will advertise the vacant position in the coming days.”

Oruo, who had served as CEO during a challenging financial and competitive period for the club, had overseen player acquisitions, sponsorship talks, and administrative restructuring. However, the failure to clinch any major honours this season appears to have triggered a rethink at the top.
The leadership of Gor Mahia—led by Chairperson Ambrose Rachier—is now expected to oversee what could be a complete overhaul, both in management and technical departments, as the club prepares for the 2025/26 season.
Fans have expressed growing frustration over the club’s recent performances, especially given Gor Mahia’s illustrious history and 20 league titles. The back-to-back announcements of top-level exits suggest that the club is responding to pressure to deliver results both on and off the pitch.
Gor’s overhaul
Meanwhile, Gor Mahia have fired the entire technical bench, including team security personnel, in a sweeping move aimed at restructuring ahead of the 2025/26 season.
In a statement released on Wednesday, July 1, 2025, the club said the decision was reached following a “comprehensive internal review” and forms part of a broader plan to strengthen the team’s technical and operational capacity.
“This decision follows a comprehensive internal review and is part of the Club’s broader restructuring process aimed at strengthening its technical and operational capacity in preparation for the upcoming 2025/26 season,” the statement read.
The club emphasised that the separation was reached “amicably and in good faith,” and acknowledged the contributions of the outgoing staff.
“We extend our sincere gratitude to the individuals involved for their commitment, professionalism, and service to the Club during their tenure,” Gor Mahia noted.
The move signals a fresh start for the record champions, who said they are now focused on laying a strong foundation for success both on and off the pitch.
“As we begin a new chapter, Gor Mahia FC remains committed to building a solid foundation that will support competitive excellence both on and off the pitch,” the club added.
The club has not yet named replacements for the outgoing staff but promised further announcements on the new technical setup “in due course.”
