Gor Mahia FC have sacked interim head coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno and his entire technical bench following a disappointing 2024/25 season that saw the club finish without a single trophy.

In a statement published through their social media on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, the record 21-time Kenyan Premier League champions confirmed that the decision was mutual and takes immediate effect.

“This decision follows a comprehensive internal review and is part of the club’s broader restructuring process,” the club stated.

The decision comes after Gor Mahia’s worst season in recent memory. The club lost the FKF Premier League title to Kenya Police FC and then suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to second-tier Nairobi United in the FKF Cup final. These results confirmed a rare trophyless season for Kenya’s most successful football institution — and one that has triggered widespread scrutiny.

Trophyless 2024/25 season

Throughout the season, Gor Mahia appeared disconnected, both on and off the pitch. The technical team struggled to implement a coherent strategy, with former head coach Sinisa Mihic raising concerns about poor recruitment and lack of attacking depth before being dismissed mid-season. His replacement, Zico, failed to inspire a turnaround, and confusion reigned within the squad.

Despite their pedigree, Gor Mahia played with an air of entitlement, underestimating opponents and failing to adapt tactically. Their fanbase, known for passionate loyalty, turned increasingly vocal, demanding accountability from the leadership.

Gor Mahia now face a critical juncture. With their legacy at risk, the club must shift away from overreliance on history and focus on restoring its footballing credibility. Rebuilding trust with fans, investing in tactical clarity, and ending internal power struggles will be essential if K’Ogalo is to reclaim its place at the top.
