Gor Mahia midfielder Austin Odhiambo believes the club will rise to the occasion and clinch a season silverware for their fans on Sunday, June 29, 2025, in the final against Nairobi United.

Speaking to the club portal ahead of the clash, Odhiambo said they hope to achieve the feat for their fans after enduring a season punctuated with challenges and inconsistencies.

Gor Mahia, who lost the league title to Kenya Police FC, head into the clash against the National Super League champions looking to salvage their season with a piece of silverware that will guarantee them a place in next year’s continental games.

Massive game

“It’s a massive game for the club. It’s the only chance we have to lift a trophy. This game can make us proud, and our fans too. They always associate us with being champions, and hopefully we can lift this cup for them,” he stated.

As players, we have the chance to do that tomorrow and appreciate our fans after letting them down in the season,” he stated.’

Odhiambo’s statement follows after coach Zedekiah Otieno assured the club’s faithful that the team is fully prepared for the cup final against Nairobi United.

“I think so far our preparation has gone the way we had planned for it, and being the final day today, I think the motivation in the camp is very high,” the coach said in a video posted on Gor Mahia’s X account on Saturday, June 28, 2025.

“Everybody is looking forward to our match tomorrow… It’s a must-win situation for us. It’s a final, and you don’t have any room for errors,” he added.

Despite the pressure associated with the club entering the game as favourites, the coach believes his players will be capable of the task ahead.

Professionals

“I think our players are mature enough and are professional enough to go and do a good job tomorrow. They know what is at stake, and we’ve planned as a team what we are supposed to do tomorrow.”

On their part, Nairobi United enters the clash seeking to complete a fairytale run to the final.

The club are the story of the tournament. The second-tier side knocked out four top-flight teams on their way to the final, including Tusker, KCB, and Kakamega Homeboyz. They are also this year’s FKF National Super League champions, and a win on Sunday would complete a historic double.
