Gor Mahia midfielder Austin Odhiambo has been recalled to the national soccer team, Harambee Stars, after missing out in the previous squad for the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers.

Coach Benni McCarthy has reinstated the impressive player who starred in Kenya’s run in the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) games alongside Ryan Ogam.

Odhiambo was, however, dropped from the team called up for duty for the past international games against the Gambia and Seychelles.

The Gor ace makes a return to the fold alongside FC Senaijoki’s youngster Lawrence Okoth.

Okoth debut call up

The former MOFA attacker has earned his maiden call-up days after joining the Finnish club from the National Super League outfit.

Others called up for a kick about at the international level include Daniel Sakari of Kenya Police, who returns after missing the previous call-up and also Europe based defender, Vincent Harper

In the next international break, Kenya will play against Burundi on Thursday, October 9, 2025, before wrapping up the campaign with a clash against the Ivory Coast on Tuesday, October 11, 2025 awy in West Africa.

Kenya’s qualifying chances went up in smoke after a matchday six 3-1 loss to Gambia, a result that left Benni McCarthy’s team staring at an insurmountable gap with group leaders Ivory Coast.

The team did regroup to defeat Seychelles in the subsequent game ahead of their penultimate and final qualifier ties against Burundi and the Les Elephants of the Ivory Coast.
