Gor Mahia parts ways with Boniface Omondi, Onyango ahead of new season
Gor Mahia FC have officially announced the departures of Boniface Omondi and Samuel Onyango, two long-serving players, as part of a wider shake-up ahead of the 2025/26 season.
The record 21-time Kenyan Premier League champions made the announcement on Friday, July 11,2025 confirming that both players will not be offered contract extensions. Omondi’s contract was due to end in August, while Onyango’s was set to expire in September.
“We have formally notified Boniface Omondi and Samuel Onyango that their contracts that were set to end in August and September 2025 respectively will not be renewed upon expiry,” the club said in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter).
Boniface Omondi, a fast and agile forward, first joined Gor Mahia in 2017 from Nzoia Sugar. He was instrumental in helping the club secure three consecutive FKF Premier League titles in 2017/18, 2018/19, and 2019/20.
After a brief stint with Wazito FC in 2020, Omondi returned to Gor Mahia but saw reduced playing time in recent seasons.

On the other hand, Samuel Onyango, a versatile winger and former Harambee Stars international, joined the club in November 2017 from Ulinzi Stars.
He was the first signing under then-head coach Dylan Kerr and contributed significantly to the club’s success during his five-year spell, including three league titles.
“We appreciate their services and wish them all the best,” the club added, signalling an amicable end to both tenures as they aim to rebuild.
Onyango had returned to the club in 2024 after a spell with Zambian side Kabwe Warriors but struggled to make a lasting impact upon his return.
His recent meeting with ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo has sparked speculation about his next move, though he has not commented publicly.
The departures come just days after Gor Mahia sacked interim head coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno and his entire technical bench, following a disappointing 2024/25 season without silverware.
With the club now aiming to rebuild, more changes to the squad and technical unit are expected in the coming
