Countdown!
‘THE DERBY. The countdown is ON! 6 days until we take on AFC Leopards at Nyayo Stadium,” an update from Gor Mahia read.
The clash will be the first leg of the 2025/2026 Mashemeji Derby, coming after both Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards missed out of the round 11 games that went down on Saturday, November 29.

Initially, the official date and venue for the first leg were slated for Sunday, November 30, 2025, at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
The clash was, however, cancelled, as Nairobi United had booked the venue for their inter-CAF club competitions against Democratic Republic of Congo outfit AS Maniema Union.

After Kasarani Stadium was booked, Nyayo Stadium became an alternative, but the venue has been reserved by State House for the Monday, December 1, 2025, World AIDS Day national ceremony, with preparations scheduled to begin as early as Saturday.
Ahead of the fixture, both sides dropped crucial points in their last league outings. AFC Leopards were held to a 1-1 frustrating draw by Kariobangi Sharks on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at Kasarani Stadium, while Gor Mahia were trashed 4-1 by struggling APS Bomet on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at Nyayo National Stadium.
Last derby
Leopards held Gor Mahia to a 1-1 draw in the last meeting pitting the two at the revamped Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay on Monday, June 2, 2025.
The tied outcome saw Gor Mahia blow their chance for defending their title, with Kenya Police FC riding on their six-point cushion at the helm as they went on to clinch the 2024/25 league title.
